About us and editorial policy

JanSetu News publishes ground reports from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi and North India in Hindi, English, Gujarati, Punjabi and Urdu. Stories come from registered local reporters ("JanSetu Yodhas") and every story is reviewed by an editor before it is published.

Editorial policy

  • Only verified Yodhas can file stories: they apply first and are approved by the editorial team.
  • Every story goes through an editor’s checklist; a person always makes the decision to publish.
  • Stories involving sexual violence, minors, communal tension or deaths are published only after a senior editor’s review.
  • We never identify minors or survivors of sexual violence.
  • We do not publish an accused person’s photo or address without official confirmation.
  • Protest and law-and-order stories include all sides; we do not publish unverified numbers.

How stories are verified

  • Facts, names and figures are confirmed with the reporter and checked against at least one independent source.
  • Every story carries its basis: "verified facts", "based on an official statement" or "allegation, not yet verified".
  • Allegations are reported as allegations, never as established facts, and the other side’s response is sought.
  • Each story shows the reporter, a link to the original source and the editor who approved it.

Corrections policy

  • When we get something wrong we correct the story and say openly, below the story, what was changed.
  • If you spot an error, comment on that story; the editorial team reads every comment.
